[Viewsat] Viewsat VS PRO current uses?

$

I had purchased the viewsat pro right before satellites upgrade to the new encryption method or whatever it was that did not all to get all the channels for free. I do not believe things have been decrypted yet with the new method of encrypting the signal. (forget the exact terms of it). But since I have purchased the viewsat vs pro it has been sitting in the box collecting dust. Is there anything I can use it for currently? I have direct tv dish and subscription currently. thanks!

[AZBox] AzBox miniMe American edition version 1.65 firmware

AzBox Canada and AzBox US are proud to announce the release of firmware version 1.65 for the AzBox miniMe American Edition.

This new version includes the following enhancements.

New features:
- Implemented ability to rename channels from the remote control. Procedure is similar to deleting channels where you need to select the desired channel in the channels list, press the menu key and select the rename function from the popup menu.
- Added ability to control the level of thoroughness for blindscan and improved scan performance by tweaking tuner driver code.
- Added percentage display during scan.
- Added transponder frequency to default name for unnamed channels. Unnamed channels now scan in as: "Freq: xxxxx MHz Service y" instead of only "Service y"
- Added ability to load or save channels list from/to USB drive for users with no LAN who want to edit their channels list using the DSEdit for miniMe American Edition software.
- Implemented support to upgrade kernel for future updates.

Bug fixes:
- Fixed scanning channels with no valid SDT. This fixes the issue where certain unnamed channels would not scan in unless PIDs were manually entered. Issue reported by danleeper80 and migold - Thank you
- Fixed display of encryption system in Signal analyzer when tuned to an encrypted channel by moving signal bars lower. Issue reported by QA
- Fixed broken web streaming on certain channels. Long outstanding issue reported by developers
- Enhanced demux initialization on boot. This fixes the occasional no video issue on first channel after boot. Remember that you may manually reinitialize the demux at anytime by pressing MENU then the BLUE button twice. Issue reported by Tanka / luis2 - Thank you
- Fixed satellite list menu handling Issue reported by QA
- Fixed loss of USALS longitude and latitude parameters when trying to do scan before going in scan setup first. Issue reported by QA
- Improved performance in antenna setup on systems with lots of activated satellites.Issue reported by Tanka / luis2 - Thank you
- Currently tuned satellite is now selected by default when doing manual or blind scan. Issue reported by developers
- Miscellaneous minor bug fixes

Available for download now via the Internet update function on network connected receivers or download via our support page to install using your USB flash drive.

I found one of these for 5 bucks at a garage sale.[ Damned expensive ] It was dead , but , with reading , I managed to resurrect it. Then I had to delete over 4000 channels. Now , I want to get my brother AMC 9 . I checked the files and Extreme was not listed. Could someone please show me the latest available update ? Thanks for any help.

[GEOSATpro] MicroHD feature request: addressable remote capabiity

Any chance on adding addressable remote capability to the MicroHD firmware, so you can have multiple receivers next to each other and not have them all respond to a single remote?

If this isn't possible, is there another way to accomplish this task without going to the extreme that Scott is doing by using a Slingplayer setup to his second MicroHD? That's quite elegant, but too much work and cost if you don't already have a Slingplayer.

[GEOSATpro] Brand new, green light, no video

Hi

After connecting it the first time, there was no video Composite or HDMI and the power LED stayed green.

I went to the internet to research the problem and an hour later when I went back I got video -did nothing to fix it-.

I spent the first night scanning and setting satellites, the next day after work the receiver was again with no video and it has been like that for a week while I got my USB Cable.

The A/V is properly seated until it clicks.
I verified the HDMI Cable and TV
I briefly connected an old receiver and all is fine (Ku on diseqc 4/4, C on diseqc 1/4, motor is fine)
Having or not having the USB thumb drive connected with firmware does nothing.

Ali has Chip Type=M3601s in the ini file

I have flashed
a) GSPMHD_20130626.abs
b) GSPMHD_0.16_12062012.abs & userdb_20121103.udf.

Most times the Serial Port fails connecting but when it connects it flashes fine.
I don't connect power supply when flashing, the LED is green as soon as I plug the cable.
It bothers me that it says "Download to sdram(Default Database)" when I download file abs.

Nothing...
Although randomly I get a blink of red
And sometimes when I change from A/V to HDMI on the TV the unit blinks red.
And today I saw the background image once for 2 seconds before disappearing.

Any suggestions?
How much time does it take to boot?
What is a normal LED color sequence? (the USB led is always off).
What is the proper setting for Ali Setting/Download abs Settings?
Both or default or user?
What is the proper setting for Ali Setting/DB Size?

Am I missing something before I request an RMA again?.

I read about some "looping" problem but that wouldn't happen with the newest firmware would it?
And if it is looping, would I see a different sequence of LED lights? or maybe a background screen? or it would be fixed by flashing the udf file right?
Does your remote blink on any key press or does it pulse?

[GEOSATpro] MicroHD, setup->TP list (always goes to first sat on list)

Think this has been discussed before, and not a major issue but maybe something that can be changed... It's a bit annoying if you have the first sat at say 30w and USALS, and you are watching 125w, and want to update or scan a transponder. The dish takes quite a tour back and fourth.
If you go to the antenna setup menu first and switch between TPs on that screen you can go back to the TP list and you will be on the right sat. Maybe there is a way it could be written into the firmware to display the last "watched" sat in the TP list when accessing that page directly so you can skip that one step.
Of course I learned quickly to disable the motor function on 30w so nothing happens if I forget and go straight to the TP list menu page first... :)

Just to make a very excellent receiver a bit more excellent!

[Openbox] Help with Openbox S 10 hook up to TV (no Picture)

$

I have an Openbox S 10 that I bought a few months ago that I am trying to set up. I have read the manual (which is written in a way that is very confusing) and I have been looking through the posts on this forum and others for help in trying to make it work. So far I have not been able to get it to so much as give me any kind of a picture on the TV screen. It will start when I turn on the power, and apparently it goes through the boot up process as indicated by the display on the box, but nothing shows up on my TV screen, not even a menu for setup or anything else. I do not have this hooked up to a dish yet, but I should think that the menu would display even though it is not hooked up to a dish. Can anyone give me some insight as to what may be wrong?
Thanks

[GEOSATpro] External Hard Drive Enclosure that will work with the microHD

$

I bought a bare drive (2TB WD) and installed it in a USB connected (wall powered) Acomdata enclosure. The microHD will not display the USB green LED. The microHD will note, on the TV screen, that the drive has been removed when you unplug the USB.

My computers (Win 7 and Chromebook) will read and write to the enclosure/drive just fine. I can and did do a NTFS format with windows 7 (took 18 hours!). Swiss Army Knife shows a USB connected with a sub USB and will not format it, shows read error. Swiss Army Knife will show all of the drive information - just can't read the sub USB.

I believe the problem is with the the Acomdata box. Can anyone tell me of an enclosure/drive bay that will adapt a bare drive to the microHD?

AzBox MiniMe American Edition & 22kHz Switch

$

Hi all,

I am having an issue getting an universal LNBF to work properly with the AzBox MiniMe American Edition.

In the tuner setup menu, I set the settings for the satellite I am trying to tune - Galaxy 17 91.0 W Ku-band - to Universal LNB (9750/10600) frequency.

The issue I am having involves the 22 kHz setting. I have a satellite meter that turns the 22kHz tone on when I was out at the dish site tuning in a channel on the satellite, so the dish is pointed correctly. Inside with the AzBox, I have tried tuning in the channel (automatic satellite scan) both with the 22kHz tone setting enabled and disabled. I have not had any luck using the automatic satellite scan doing this.

The odd thing is that I can tune the channel if I do manual transponder scan and input the frequency/SR/polarity info there, I am able to pick up and scan in two channels that way on the AzBox. However, when I try to view the channels, the quality is 0 and they do not tune it. HOWEVER - I have discovered that by connecting the satellite meter to the AzBox's loop out and having the satellite meter send the 22 kHz tone to the LNBF, I am able to receive the channel on both the AzBox and the satellite meter.

Altogether, I think I have figured out that the AzBox does not (always) seem to output the 22 kHz tone. However, it will discover the channel during the manual scan. I just cannot view the channel unless I have another piece of equipment sending the 22k tone.

Does anyone have suggestions as to how I can fix this issue? I do have a standard 10750 LNBF which works fine with the AzBox. Unfortunately, I am only borrowing it and must return it soon. I would like to get my Universal LNBF working correctly but don't seem to be having any luck. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thank you.

This new version includes the following enhancements.

Bug fixes:
- Greatly improved blind scan accuracy and performance. A blind scan on "quick mode" now only takes a few minutes and works relatively well for satellites with high SR transponders. However, "detailed mode" is recommended when scanning satellites with low SR transponders. Long standing issue reported by several users and developers - Thank you
- Fixed locking issue with certain low symbol rate transponders introduced in firmware version 1.65 . Issue reported by scopus - Thank you
- Improved performance when deleting channels. Issue reported by QA
- Miscellaneous minor bug and GUI fixes

[GEOSATpro] How to avoid the MicroHD "Boot Loop" by properly updating your firmware (and still keeping your old channel and satellite lists)

$

Submitted for your approval: a "one-stop" instruction list (a compilation of external video links and instructions and comments in the forum). I would like to request, if there be no objections, to make this PDF file a sticky. Now, let me explain myself just a little bit because if I don't, there could be some major misunderstandings here.

1. I haven't had any trouble with the boot loop for a very long time (maybe even last year? I can't recall), after having used the official and most recent version of the ALI Editor and following the instructions exactly as you see here.
2. I am not posting anything new here. Everything in the PDF file has been clearly stated elsewhere in the forum and by Brian on YouTube. If you search for the answers, you will find them!
3. Let's be honest. Although the answers are all there, they aren't so easy to locate. Even after filtering the results for GeoSat products, it can be a challenge to find the individual step-by-step instructions for the various procedures in the forum: updating the firmware, saving your .udf file, restoring your .udf file, etc. Yes, the .abs update instructions are included in the release announcement on the page one sticky, but they are not fashioned in a traditional chronological format for new users (the videos, however, are perfect). Other users may not recall at what point in the updating procedure that they should restore their .udf file. Yes, the instructions are all on the forum (see #2, above), but as stated, you may find the .udf procedure on page four of the support forum and the .abs update procedure as a sticky with the latest firmware on page one. In the process of all this searching, and flipping back and forth between pages, a tired user might have a lapse in judgment and skip a very important step -- for example, power cycling before reloading the .udf file.
4. I did not include a section on how to update via satellite (but I did include a link to the video that explains this). I also did not explain anything about using the ALI Editor (but the procedure for adding an ALI edited .udf file is the same as in the included instructions).
5. If this document is made into a sticky, do make sure my instructions are flawless. I did the best I can and some of you have already commented, but I need a few more pairs of eyes to make absolutely sure. I'd hate to mess someone up because I left out a word or sentence.
6. I taught middle school for eleven years. Communication between students, teachers, principals, other schools, and district administrators would often go awry due to something as simple as the way information was presented. All I wish to do with this document is create a new way of presenting the same information. I'm not reinventing the wheel -- I'm just trying to move it to the front shop window so people can see it better.

Hi guys,
I needs help with choosing the right receiver and dish. I want a receiver that can drive the motorize dish and can do a blind scan as well. I'm not interested in be able to watch a lot of channels but I'm really interested in be able to pick signal for couple channels on IS 23 and IS 25. I would like to know the descent receiver and a descent dish that can do the job for me.

[OTHER] Skybox F3 HD

On an impulse, I bought a new in box Skybox F3 last Labor Day weekend on a special price deal of $29.99 plus $4 shipping, on Amazon. It is on the way with a USB WiFi included in that price. I will use it on the loop out of my OpenBox S9 tied to a C Band system.

The price changed quickly back to $75 or so after the three day weekend. I could plug it into my Internet network if I wanted to, but have never seen the need to do so with the S9, so what's the purpose of it?

Also, for anyone who has one of these, does the software need to be updated when it arrives?

[AZBox] AZBox Ultra and FEC Settings?

$

Was working on a new channel list for the Elite I have and noticed something odd about FEC settings with these boxes. A TP on 87W was listed as having 3/4 FEC but the Elite wouldn't lock it until I changed it to 5/6, then it locked. Went to my other system with the AZ Ultra on it and pulled up the same satellite and TP and that FEC listed was one step back of what was "listed" for it, ie, 2/3 instead of 3/4, and here's the odd part. That Ultra willll lock that TP with any FEC I switched it to?? Came back to the Elite and it would lock it on 5/6 and 7/8 but only if I started out on 5/6 and moved to 7/8. It wouldn't lock if I went to 7/8 first, which one would think is "normal"? That Ultra will lock with any FEC I set it on even when I set it wrong, move to another TP and come back to that one and it will still lock with ANY of the wrong numbers???

That Ultra has kinda got me scratching my head wondering why it works with ANY FEC. This receiver has presented me with some problems in that the channel list in it won't work in the Elite because of these odd numbers on both FEC and some SRs.

So the Ultra is running 5020 firmware and the elite is running 5311 but that "shouldn't" have any effect on what the satellite's FEC requirements are.

Anyone got any info to "spalin" what I'm seeing with this?

Thanks

MicroHD boot loop PC won't fix it

Ok have tried all evening and have failed, Last weekend I put up my FTA KU dish and hooked up a MicroHD I got from a member here. I tuned it to 99W than decided to put in on 125W. When i came back after moving my dish i found the receiver in a boot loop. I did some looking on here for some help and determined I needed to get the USB serial cable. I bought one on ebay and got it today. I have tried uploading files with 2 different windows7 pcs and a virual windows xp pc. Each time i get to downloading the file to the receiver It tries to test the serial port. After about 10sec or so It give me a failed test message. I know I have the correct serial port selected. Any suggestions?

[GEOSATpro] First-ever update to original software as-received new. Precautions/versions?

$

I've always had GREAT microHD service, and because of that, I never updated firmware. But, before winter, I'm adding some fixed dishes and want to make sure the unit is as current and easy to use as possible.

I'm a bit confused on whether my "version" of the firmware is the one we've been cautioned about that may cause issues. I refer to the fact my stored positions and favorites may not work jumping from this very early version to latest version.

Is there a need to put in an intermediate version along the way, and what version SHOULD I be able to go to from mine? I've read the update "sticky" pdf, but the caution is there that there may be issues reloading the user file.

May I politely ask the experts here, if my original firmware can go directly TO the latest, or what users here would recommend? I've not updated in the past year due to GREAT solid service, but it's probably time, especially if I want to continue being able to contribute to threads on this site should an issue arise. I understand the procedure, but don't want to introduce issues through updates if I need to do something in-between the original and the currently offered versions.

I'm probably the LAST person to not update when one is available!
