azbox minime firmware flash

$

Hello all!
So I purchased an Azbox Minime a few days ago and tried to set up a dish (posted regarding it earlier). I got fed up with aiming the dish on the Azbox and used a different receiver and aimed the dish successfully. I was reading on this forum that some people were having issues with the version 1.5 of the Azbox Mimime firmware so I downgraded to 1.2 as it appeared some were doing that only to discover some missing features. I figured since I never really had any issue with 1.5 I upgraded back to 1.5 via the internet upgrade method only for it to fail (Must have currupted or something?). Wouldn't boot.

There is a recovery switch on the back of the Azbox receiver that implys something: recovery. Boy was I wrong. Apparently it deletes everything and gets you to reflash it again. Now I can't reload the Azbox firmware that the receiver came with via internet using the Azbox recovery interface nor via USB.

So I go looking around for firmware. I see there is OpenRSi, OpenAZBox and Aztrino, which is the firmware that the canadian version seems to be based on. I installed Aztrino but it doesn't include a list of satellites for north america. What makes things worse is I can't even get the source code for the north america azbox firmware because the guy I emailed said it was "Propriatary" because they were "working on an IPTV solution", even though the Aztrino firmware explicitly says it is released under the GNU GPL v2, so this is clearly copyright infringement.

So the question is, does anyone know of any firmware that will work for here in Canada? I'm not all too impressed with this receiver. I was told it was nice only to find out you can't even get it to work!

Hello Everyone!!Is there anyone with access to Telstar 12 15W using a Openbox S10?? For some kind of reason my S10 will not see frequencies with 45000 SRs. All other Tps there are fine. I want to know if this is a firmware or a hardware problem . If someone is able to do it I'm looking to get the firmware version to update mine. Thanks!!

hello all,
So i just ordered an Openbox S9 as a second receiver which will be arriving shortly and was wondering what firmware you folks recommended as the best in terms of stability, blind scan, sat list, etc and where to get it.

Thanks!

After about 40 man hours attempting to get my FTA system working I decided to post this in hopes someone can tell me what I am doing wrong or at least give me some tips.

Located near Flagstaff AZ

My goal is to get AMC 21 so I can watch PBS from my remote location. I have used numerous sites to help me find the correct azimith and
eleveation.
I normally install the hand held signal strength meter and point the antenna at the specificed azimith and eleveation. I fine tune the elevation

and azimith to get the strongest signal. Then I remove the signal meter and install satelite finder with built in TV screen then select a

transponder on screen that has a quality reading (10 to 20 % etc). I can seldom get the quality above 25%. I have switched the sat finder to
satelittes to the left and right of the one I am aiming and selected various transponders on those sats. Using this process I determine that I am
aimed at the sat that shows a quality signal (10 to 20% usually) Is that the correct method???

My problem is that I can not get the quality above 25 %. On 2 occassions I got 70% quality on Galaxy 19 and scanned 100+ channels that I could watch on the handheld sat finder and on my TV. Once I got SES 1 or 2 and could watch 4 channels only there.
I locate several sats using the little signal meter but can usually not get any quality reading or if I get a quality reading it is low. I tried to go back to Galaxy 19 but could never get a quality signal after I left it.

I do have a lot of trees in my area. But my antenna is set to 46 degrees elevation and my protractor/compass indicates that I would be over the trees by 10 feet. Is this enough???

I set my LNB setting on screen to Standard and 10750. The LNB box reads Standard and 10.75 ghz. Is this setting correct??? I bought a second lnb with the same readings and tried it also. No difference. What should be the settings for this lnb?

I have tried 3 sets of coax ables. No difference.
Dish does not appear warped. At least not to the eye. Is warpage super critical??

If anyone has an idea please let me know. I have exhaust all of my ideas.
Thanks,
Jerry Rigger

Just getting started into FTA and finding things that I don't understand.

1. After locating a satellite and adjusting the antenna azimuth and elevation for max signal strength (using a hand held signal finder meter)...How do I determine which sat the signal is coming from???

2. Will the signal quality meter on the TV only show quality if I have the correct sat selected on the receiver???

3. If I have no idea which sat I am pointing at, will a blind scan still work to find transponders and channels???

4. What is the procedure if one is unsure which sat the signal is coming from?

Thanks so much.

Pentagon Channel

Hello folks,
So I got my FTA System with a motor setup. It is a 33in dish and SG2100 motor. I have an Azbox MiniMe, but unfortunately it's in repair so in the mean time I picked up an Openbox S9 pretty cheap that I could use until it gets back. Some DVB-S2 signal seem to have a hard time coming in,e E in fact I get nothing on AMC21. One thing I noticed about the Openbox is it didn't have any north american satellites so I added in the sats manually and blind scanned. I am told the Pentagon Channel is on Satellite 101W (SES1) so when I blind scanned I got only a couple radio stations (particularly the EMF klove one and something else) and one other. I read that the EMF station is on DVB-S2 and the quality I'm getting on it is 30%. Kind of low but I don't think it will be any better than that since I've tweaked it the best I can and the dish is small. The pentagon channel however wont even scan in, in fact, the blind scan didn't pick up the TP either.

I read the pentagon channel is on DVB-S, so I added in the TP that the pentagon channel has on their website, (same one listed on lyngsat) 11820 H 20000 but I am getting no quality on it whatsoever (I guess that's why it didn't blindscan in?). It picked up another TP during the blindscan (11710 H 8416) and that's coming in at 63%.

So any ideas why I can't get the tp with pentagon channel at all? I'm located in Southwestern NS, does that TP not reach here or something, is the dish out of wack (I dont think so because other satellites like 83, 87, 91, 95, 97 and 123 come in fine). Perhaps the receiver is screwed up? I also tried changing the LNB and no difference either.

[GEOSATpro] microHD Firmware Suggestions

I got mine the other day and it's a great little box. Two little bugs that are a bit irritating however. The first one I've read about it before but can't find the thread where it was referenced. That 'moving dish' box stays on way too long. Quite often if the new satellite is nearby the video comes up almost right away but you have to sit and wait until that box disappears. It would be nice if something could be done about it.

The other thing that I haven't seen mentioned is I'm wondering if there is a way to normalize the audio between the different channels? Some uplinkers run low audio and you have to jack the volume and others drive the audio so much you have to back way off. Is there a way to implement audio leveling between channels?

Great little box and I was able to update the firmware quickly off the satellite and especially like how sensitive it is in capturing the low bitrate channels. It's locking in the sub 2000 channels that my other boxes wouldn't even detect.

Micro HD Antenna connector spins

I love the Micro HD and I take it everywhere I go. (to the garage, and back to the house), but I think the practice of connecting it and disconnecting it multiple times has caused a problem.

A few days ago the thing that sticks out the back that the antenna connects to started spinning and the solder connection broke. I don't ever use a wrench or anything else to connect the coax to the receiver. I found that the body of the connector is crimped into a little silver box. I think part of the problem is that torque is created when the receiver is moved with a coax connected to it, and that puts a strain on the crimp.

I resoldered the connector but that didn't solve the spinning problem because of the crimp being loose. To try to put a washer and nut on from the outside would pull the connector out of the box because there is a small gap between the circuit board, and the housing of the receiver. I put a nut and washer on the inside to take up that space and a nut on the outside to tighten it somewhat so it won't spin as long as I am very careful about how I handle it, and connect it.

Most people aren't as destructive as I am, but I just wanted to let you know not to allow the coax to put any stress on the connector when you are handling the receiver. But you probably already knew that.

[AZBox] miniMe American Edition channel editor

We have just created a customized version of DSEdit for the AzBox miniMe American Edition which allows you to fully edit and easily manage your receiver's channels from the convenience of your PC. It works best when both your receiver and computer are connected to your network as it allows channels to be edited on the fly without having to use a USB flash drive or rebooting your STB after each change.

It's very simple to get started as you simply have to specify your receiver's IP address under the Box IP field as indicated by the red arrow. No other fields have to be modified as this has already been done for you with our customized editor. To save your STB IP address as the new default, you would then click on Save Configuration and OK.

Transferring your current channel list is easy now that both your STB and computer are connected on the same network. Simply select Transfer from the toolbar and then the Read button to transfer channel and satellite information from your miniMe American Edition directly in the editor. You should see a message appear on your TV screen for a few seconds during the transfer process.

The organize lists tab allows you to easily view and modify channels from a specific satellite. You may also organize your channels into custom favorite lists simply by drag and dropping each channel to the desired list on the right hand side of the screen.

The edit settings tab allows you to easily view channels on a specific transponder. Current PID information for all channels can be viewed or modified on the fly. You may also add, edit or delete transponders over here as well.

The search tab allows you to easily search for specific channels by keyword.

The statistics tab allows you to view how many TV, radio, FTA or encrypted channels you have scanned on each satellite.

The transfer button on the toolbar allows you to easily transfer your channel list back to your network connected miniMe American Edition once all desired modifications have been made. Changes take effect immediately without having to reboot your STB. You should see a message appear on your TV screen for a few seconds during the transfer process and your channel list will be automatically reloaded by default in order to instantly view your changes.

You may download DSEdit for AzBox miniMe American Edition from the support section of azbox.ca or azbox.us

[GEOSATpro] MicroHD recording issues

$

0
Well amazingly enough, I began to have some recording issues.

I have an external 600gb disk plugged into the tuner and have been recording PBJ and RTV daily for months.

About a week ago I started losing signal because the drought has dried the ground up badly and the dish pole drooped..
I put a soaker hose around the pole for a few days and got the ground damp again and the pole straightened up and I got signal back.

But about 4 days ago it stopped recording (on the 25th).

Saturday I walked past the tuner and saw the red LED on so I assumed it was recording Wolfman Mac and Offbeat Cinema like usual. I didn't check it at the time because I was watching MeTV in the other room on a different system.

Sunday I looked up at the tuner and the red LED was on. Hmmmm... ???

So I turned the TV on to see what it was recording but it did not show that it was recording anything.
I checked the DVR files and I could see the last thing it recorded was PBJ Harvey Toons on Saturday at 2pm. The recordings for Harvey toons at 10:30 was missing and both Wolfman Mac and Offbeat Cinema was missing for Saturday.

I played back the recording from 2pm and it was fine. Obviously the external disk is connected and operating properly.

I checked all the schedules and they all had the right times and dates and the system clock was correct.

Still, the red recording light was on. So I powered it off and when it rebooted the message came up that USB Disk A was connected (or something like that) and the green USB light was on.

Today I checked and there were no recordings for yesterday and it did not record today at 2pm even though the red recording light came on at 2pm. It should have gone off at 2:30 (it used to) but it did not turn off and there was no recording for today even though it indicated that it did record.

The disk shows that it has about 450gb free.

I thought maybe it could be a firmware issue so I checked and the firmware was dated 2/18/13.
So I saved my channels database to the disk then I tuned to the update channel on G19 and did a firmware update to the current one, it's dated 6/26/13 now.
I rebooted then reloaded my channels database.

I am hoping this will fix it. I guess I'll find out tonight at 10:30 when it's supposed to record Harvey toons.

Does anyone know what this might be about? It's worked great for the 9-10 months I've had it and just started acting funny after my dish poles got loose and and I lost signal.
This week I plan to plant a new pole at least 4 feet deep, like my C-band dishes.

Thanks! :)

[GEOSATpro] I wish the MicroHD would do this...

Sometimes, while waiting for a blind scan to finish up, I think to myself, "wouldn't it be great if I could access my DVR recordings and watch something while it's finishing the scan?"

But then I realized that might be going too far. I know very little about the inner workings of electronics. With voltages going this way and that and then that way and this, I'm assuming the microprocessor would probably explode in a puff of smoke (or something similar) if we tried to make it do all of that at once, right?

[GEOSATpro] MIcroHD feature request

$

Hey guys, is it possible to add an option for recording by weekdays?

Like it has the option to record once, daily, weekly and monthly. Can you add an option to record M-F (Monday through Friday) ??

As it is now, for instance, I want to record Highway Patrol that comes on weeknights but not weekends.
So I have to create 5 weekly timers, one for each weeknight. It's not a big deal to do but if there are several weeknight shows you want to record you can fill the timer slots up real quick.
The other option would be to just make one daily timer and just delete whatever it records on Saturday and Sunday.

It would just be kinda cool if it could do that. But if it's not possible that's cool too, it's not too hard to work around it.

And one other small request. Is it possible or can it be added in, to lock the favorites in place?
It seems like pretty much everything I do or every time it executes a schedule option, it changes from my favorites list to the "all satellites" list with 700 flippin channels..

Maybe there is a way to lock it to the favorites list already that I just haven't found yet??

Thanks! :)

I tried to get that new Mediabox editor to work but it just craters out. I tried to import files under several options such as the ALI and something that said geosat or something like that.
No luck, just errors, it doesn't seem to like MicroHD files. So I gave up on it.

I am pleased to report however that using Crossover for OS X, I got the AliEditor working fine on my Mac.. :)

I would be interested to learn what to do to make that other editor work AliEditor is ok but it's written for windows XP. :facepalm

Or maybe there's a newer version?

MicroHD - Editor/DVD Burner for DVR-MS Files

$

Recently, I decided to try out the DVR in the MicroHD. Now that I have the files (dvr-ms), I'm looking for a good piece of software to edit/burn them. So far I found "DVD Creator" from Daniusoft. However it only has a simple editor in it. Before buying software "that I think might work", I'd like to ask for your recomendations.

I'd like to record my favorite music videos, cut/paste my favorites into another file, edit them if necessary, then burn them to a DVD/DVD-DL as necessary. Thanks in advance for your expert guidance.

[CNX] HELP! 80-99 signal strength 0-0 quality strength

Had dishnetwork for over a decade before going OTA with an old UHF grille for 6 channels .
Put my toe in the water of FTA . Purchased a system CNX-Nano . Tech advised
aim at Galaxy 19 97W ( 139mag here ) and LNB skew matches -17 with 31 elevation .
Tech where purchased advised to put freq at 11991 and LNB on Universal 1 .
LNB power=on , 22=off , dis=none , satellite is galaxy 19 . Then tech said fine
tune aim on dish to get best Q bar . Well the only thing that ever moved was the S bar .
After aiming everywhere the Q bar was stuck on '0' without as much as a flicker .
I ended up fine tuning the aim for a 80-99 signal strength , but still '0' Q .
Do I have something turned off or am I missing some setting ?????
